Tips for Creating Calendars
Have a tip for designing a calendar that you don't see here? Contact us and let us know!
Tips for Vertical Pictures: If you are scanning your pictures, or have them already saved on your computer, you can add clip art or text to the sides of your vertical images. You can also scan two vertical images side by side to create one image file. Please be sure to save the new image in JPEG format. (See our FAQ page for more information.) You can also use a photo editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop to combine two vertical images side by side and save them as one image file. Please be sure to save the new image in JPEG format. (See our FAQ page for more information.)
Save time when creating your calendar online by having your photos selected and named by the corresponding month and placed in the same location on your computer. For example, save your September 2007 photo as sept07.jpg and your cover photo as cover.jpg and save both in a folder/directory called "My Calendar". By naming your image files like this and saving them in the same location before placing your order, your online order process will go more quickly and smoothly.
When scanning photos for your calendar, set your resolution to 300 dpi if possible. The higher the resolution, the better your pictures will look when enlarged to fit the page. The same is true for taking pictures with a digital camera -- make sure the picture quality is set as high as possible for pictures to be used in your calendar.
Use scrapbooking materials to enhance your images. You can use an 8x10 photo and add details such as letters, a border, or other cut outs, or create a collage of photos. Scrapbooking materials are available in most stationary stores and are an easy, low-cost way to liven up your photos.
Be sure to select prints or digital images that are bright, crisp, clear and vivid for your calendar.
Use captions under your photos to add a personal touch to your calendars. You can use a short phrase or sentence, the date the photo was taken, a description of the photo, or a message to the person receiving the calendar.
Remember that customized dates don't have to be just birthdays or anniversaries. Write a little note to a friend or loved one any day of the year, like "Call me today" or "Smile!" . As with all customized dates, remember to check your spelling carefully prior to printing.
A calendar doesn't have to just go from January to December. Remember you can start your calendar on any month, and make it as long as you want!
Go online and look up some great quotes to use with your calendars. Put them in the image file, in the captions or dedication, or as special occasions.
Have all your special occasions, captions, title, and dedication written down before placing your order to help the online order process go smoothly and efficiently.
Not sure how your images or collages will look on your calendar? Use the online order preview. Once you have completed the calendar, you will be able to view an Adobe Acrobat PDF sample of your calendar. Be sure to view the PDF at 100% to get a good idea of the image quality prior to printing.
